1. Animals & Man Building (Phase II) - COMPLETED
The City of Topeka is committed to funding the addition of 3,500 square feet to the existing Animals and Man building to provide the zoo elephants with more holding and exhibition space. High quality of life for our animals is paramount and more space will ensure proper elephant management, additional space for the giraffes and indoor stalls for the cranes that reside in the current giraffe area. In addition to providing much needed holding and exhibition space, this exhibit enhancement is crucial for the zoo to be in full compliance with USDA and American Zoo and Aquarium (AZA) elephant management guidelines that become effective in 2006.
2. Kansas Carnivores - IN PROGRESS
Majestic mountain lions and aquatic otters will provide visitors a native carnivore experience. As part of the Kansas section of the zoo, this exhibit will create a better understanding of the Kansas ecosystem and role played by various native species. The mountain lion exhibit will be an open air exhibit large enough to house up to three mountain lions. The river otter habitat will be an open air exhibit including a pool and sufficient space for a pair of river otters to raise their young.

3. Animal Health Center - COMPLETED
Our animals need regular medical care just like people and the health management of zoo animals is our primary focus each day. Prevention is key to
contributing to the longevity of our animal collection. To continue to provide first-rate veterinary health care into the future, updated space and technology is needed for this 2,400 square foor building.
4. Hyena Exhibit - IN PROGRESS
Experience the haunting howl of hyenas in a unique habitat adjacent to the Lion’s Pride for an enhanced "African" experience. The hyenas will inhabit a large outside yard with a winter holding facility for their comfort when the weather is inclement.
